What’s your shaping philosophy? No machine will ever take the place of shaping that magic board for someone by hand.

What led you to become a shaper? Watching my Dad and Donald Takayama building boards, and having a good time doing it.

Who is your biggest shaping influence? Donald Takayama and Michael Peterson.

What do others consider your expertise? Custom hand-shaped boards.

How is your shaping influenced by your location? I’d rather shape at work than surf at Swamis.

What trends in shaping are affecting your lineup this year? The main trend seems to be shorter, wider, thicker, and just more fun. That’s what we have.

Are there any new technologies you’re integrating into your shapes? We’ve been talking to the boys at NASA, you’ll have to wait and see.

What advice would you give to customers to help them get the best board possible? Know what model you want and what it will do for you.

What’s the biggest lesson learned in your shaping career? Work can be fun.
