Stamps Surfboards Shaper: Tim Stamps
Year started shaping: 1989 Boards shaped: 17,000
What’s your shaping philosophy? To create all my designs utilizing all of my experience and craftsmanship to make the highest quality, best performing board possible.
What do you consider your expertise? I consider my expertise the wide variety of models and genres my shapes and designs span. Designing and surfing a wide variety of boards gives me a better feeling on how all the curves relate and react with one another.
How is your shaping influenced by your location? The local zone in California is a great influence on my design. We have a wide variety of surf spots here, so it’s an ideal place to tune in a wide variety of shapes. It’s equally important to work with traveling surfers and to travel and surf different locations to see what the world has to offer. This gives me a well-rounded approach.
What trends in shaping are affecting your lineup this year? What I see is a lot of interest in very functional and well-rounded designs. A lot of shorter, wider, full-volume boards that will cover a wide range of conditions.
What advice would you give to customers to help them get the best board possible? The best advice is to be honest with your ability and what you expect to get out of a board. Know what you are currently riding and where you want to go from there.
